If you go over to my Instagram account (patriciabafalis), you will notice that hashtag in most, if not all of my posts. As a Virgo, discipline runs through my veins. Now if you mix that with perfectionism, it could be a recipe for disaster. You will find yourself in a dark scary place having a lot of stuff to do and wanting to do them perfectly, and you might end up getting overwhelmed and not accomplishing much. Believe me, I know, I ha
ve been there and I visit that place every now and then. We can’t help it. It’s human nature.
Is there a way out? You might ask. Well, as a matter of fact, there is! It’s called compassion with yourself. If you find yourself overwhelmed, thinking how I am ever going to get organized, and get this and that done, and get in shape, eat healthy, finally read that book, be a nice caring spouse and parent, you’re not alone on this eternal quest, and you didn’t get there in one day. So don’t expect to accomplish all those things in a day, a week, or even a month. Have compassion with yourself. Forgive yourself and above all exercise patience with yourself as you would with a loved one, being the caring and nurturing person that you are.
Start small. Go to bed 20 minutes earlier. Drink a glass of water upon rising and just observe how your body comes to life, just like a plant that needs to be watered, our bodies are very acidic and dehydrated in the morning from all the organ renewal that happens overnight. Start connecting to your body. This is the very first step you should take towards mind clarity and a disciplined life. Easy right? Do you think you can incorporate this small step into your routine?
