I was diagnosed with narcolepsy and hypothyroidism and was prescribed heavy-duty pharmaceutical pills which quickly created a dependency. Trouble was, I wasn’t feeling any better. The meds would give me a high for two to three hours followed by a crash. Then I would need more pills and would ask the doctor to up my dose. I almost instantly became a druggy. And I was the kind of person who wouldn’t even take an Advil if I had a headache.
I woke up one morning and decided enough was enough. I ditched the pills and started researching what type of foods would give you energy, natural energy that you wouldn’t crash from. And that’s when my path to holistic healing began. Four years later, and even though the doctors tell me there’s no cure for narcolepsy since it’s a lack of the chemical in the brain that keeps you alert, I can proudly say I successfully keep it in under control as long as have my daily dose of greens and at least 8 hours of sleep (narcoleptics should never be sleep deprived). And no coffee or pills required. My thyroid hormone levels are back to normal as well.
Let thy food be thy medicine and let thy medicine be thy food is my mantra and I live by these words. These words nurtured me back to health and help me maintain it.
